Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a complex gastrointestinal disorder and its etiology is unclear yet Current theory in IBD is focused on genetics, immunity and intestinal microbes. Emerging clinical evidence and experimental results suggest that morphologic abnormalities and dysfunction of mesenteric lymphatics may have potential roles in the pathogenesis and disease course of IBD. In this review, we summarize the findings of specific investigations of the lymphatics and explore its role in IBD. (C) 2018 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.
