The Pondaung Formation(central Myanmar) is one of the richest middle/late Eocene fossil-bearing deposits of terrestrial mammals in southern East Asia. Since fossil materials were first reported by Pilgrim & Cotter (1916), more than 20 mammalian genera have been discovered in the Pondaung Formation (Tsubamoto et al., 2000).
