A direct determination of the relationship between {ital T}{sub {ital c}} and hole concentration {ital p} for Y{sub 1{minus}{ital x}}Ca{sub {ital x}}Ba{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} is obtained by investigating the properties of the fully oxygen-deficient ({delta}{approx}1.0) compound for which {ital p}={ital x}/2. Measurements of {ital T}{sub {ital c}}, the thermoelectric power {ital S}, and bond-valence sums calculated from neutron-diffraction refinements for various values of {ital x} and {delta} allow the full determination of the relations {ital p}={ital p}({delta}), {ital T}{sub {ital c}}={ital T}{sub {ital c}}({ital p}), and {ital S}={ital S}({ital T},{ital p}) confirming that YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} satisfies the same universal relations in these quantities as the other high-{ital T}{sub {ital c}} superconducting cuprates.
