The author concludes from a review of the evidence that the only viruses known to be transmitted by thrips are strains of the tomato spotted wilt virus, that they are of the persistent type, and that they probably do not multiply in their insect vectors, though they are retained by them for as long as 30-43 days; the inability of adult thrips to acquire virus [25 157: 52 147] is unique.
