Electrocatalytic properties of various pyrochlore-type oxides (A2-xA’xB2O7− Z: A= Pb, A’= Pb, Bi, Sb, In; B= Ru) synthesized by a co-precipitation method were systematically investigated for oxygen reduction, hydrogen oxidation and tolerance of CO poisoning for the electrocatalyst of the polymer electrolyte fuel cell. Most of the pyrochlore-type oxides could be synthesized by the co-precipitation method at 380-600 C in aqueous solutions. The electrode containing Pb1. 9In0. 1Ru2O7-Z prepared at 380 C indicated high oxygen reduction activity, 181mA/cm2 at+ 0.4 V vs. RHE in 2N H2SO4. In addition, hydrogen oxidation current density of Pb2Ru2O7-Z was 117mA/cm2 at 0.2 V vs. RHE in same solution. Pb1. 9M0. 1Ru2O7-z (M= In, Sb, Bi, Pb) oxides indicated rather high oxygen reduction activity in the order of M= In> Sb> Bi> Pb.
