Least squares, weighted least squares and maximum-likelihood estimation of the proportions of admixture in racial hybrids is considered. Provided all alíeles are used in the formulation, least squares and maximum likelihood estimates tend to be similar. A "pseudo-maximum likelihood " method is suggested that may be useful when the data on the hybrid population are family data. Three different iterative methods for obtaining maximum likelihood estimates are noted; no one is best in general.-A.S.
