Methods.The whole hloorl clotting time. Three acid-cleaned, dry tubes measuring 10 x 70 mm were supplied with a mark indicating 1 ml. After a clean venepuncture with a needle of gauge 18, the first few ml of blood were discarded, and the tubes were filled to the mark directly from the needle. They were immediately placed in a waterbath at 37" C, and gently tilted every 30 seconds. The end point was taken when the tube could be tilted 90 degrees without any observable flow of blood. The mean of the three tubes was taken as the clotting time. Th? PP tost was performed by the technique of Owren and Aas (1951).
