MATERIALS AND METHODSDifferentiation or growth and proliferation of lymphocytes are regulated by the binding of exogenous activating ligandsSubstrates--l-palmitoyl-sn-3-glycerophosphocholine, palmitoyl coenxyme A, and oleoyl coenzyme A were obtained from Sigma, l-[l-“C] palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine and [l-‘4C] oleoyl coenzyme A from Amersham Buchler. Linoleoyl coenzyme A and arachidonoyl coenxyme A were synthesized according to Reitz et al.(8) using linoleoyl chloride or arachidonoyl chloride (NuChek Prep) and coenxyme A (Boehringer) as substrates. Immediately after termination of the reaction, 1 pmo1/2 pmol of acyl-coA(2, 6-ditert-butyl-4-methylphenol) were added as an antioxidant.
