The term mucormycosis denotes fungal infection by members of the order Mucorales (genera fhizopus, Mucor, Absidia and Mortierella). It is the most rapidly fatal of the human mycoses and must be recognized if therapy is to be instituted in a timely manner." The cutaneous and rhinocerebral forms of the disease are the most recognizable. We report a case of rhinocerebral mucormycosis in an infant with streptococcal sepsis and purpura fulminans and review the reported cases of rhinocerebral mucormycosis in infants.
