This paper examines the association between family life-cycle stage and residential preference as well as the likelihood of moving at different life-cycle stages if the most important residential characteristics could be obtained in a new location. The patterning of residential preferences can be logically related to the unique circumstances of persons at certain points in the family life cycle. Young adults, especially young single persons, are more likely to act upon the availability of those residential attributes they most prefer.
