The definition of migraine varies in its degree of exactitude, pertinence, and completeness with the definer, being the man-in-the-street, the general physician, the neurologist, or the migraine-connoisseur. As long as a pathognomonic, objective (biochemical) parameter of migraine has not been discovered, recognition of the disorder will remain a matter of opinion (read: conjecture) rather than fact.
