Magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) is an effective noninvasive tool for the evaluation of inflammatory and noninflammatory conditions of the small bowel. MRE allows for repeated evaluation of patients with Crohn's disease without exposure to ionizing radiation and can be used to assess disease status and direct management. MRE also allows the evaluation of neoplastic and other nonneoplastic conditions of the small bowel. Adequate patient preparation and acquisition techniques are required for optimal image quality.
