In August 1924 Tom Lacey, an Aboriginal man sent a letter from Sydney to Amy Jacques Garvey, associate editor of 'The Negro World' and wife of Marcus Garvey, who was the leader of the Universal Negro Improvement Association. The significance and genesis of these international African American connections with early Aboriginal political leaders of the Sydney waterfront is explored.
