This article discusses the prognostic significance of sentinel lymph node (SLN) status in thin melanoma, specifically melanomas with a thickness of 1.0 mm or less. The study evaluated various risk indicators in a subset of 196 thin melanoma patients who underwent SLN biopsies. The presence of micrometastatic SLN was found to be associated with a reduced 5-year relapse-free survival (RFS), indicating an elevated risk of relapse within 5 years. The study suggests that SLN biopsy can be an effective tool for identifying high-risk patients and guiding treatment decisions, but long-term surveillance is still necessary.[Extracted from the article]Copyright of International Journal of Dermatology is the property of Wiley-Blackwell and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder's express written permission.
