Introduction Our intention in this review is to evaluate eight current adult courses published by major British publishers, and to draw attention to the trends they have in common. As such a comprehensive review of coursebooks has never appeared in the ELT Journal before, we have endeavoured to make our review as rigorous as possible, in order to be informative about the particular courses under review, and about course development in general.
