By RNA in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical analyses of early stage mouse embryos, we find that alpha4 integrin gene is expressed in migratory cranial neural crest cells originating from the presumptive forebrain, midbrain, and rhombomeres 1 and 2 of the presumptive hindbrain. Alpha4 is also expressed in epicardial progenitor cells in the septum transversum that migrate to the heart. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.
