The adsorption of poly (ethylene oxide) onto charcoal has been measured from six solvents. The adsorption depends strongly on the level of solvent competition for the surface as judged by vapor sorption studies. As a consequence of the porosity of charcoal, little variation in polymer adsorption is shown over the whole molecular weight range. How-ever, adsorption onto nonporous carbon increases with molecular weight. Block copoly-mers of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide have been used to study the effect of variation in polymer structure; a random copolymer is adsorbed to a similar extent as a block co-polymer of the same over-all composition. Polyethers are not tightly bound to carbon and may be desorbed from charcoal without undue difficulty.
