Examined the effects of level of aggression shown by a live peer model and attraction toward the model on aggressive behavior using 72 male undergraduates. Attraction was manipulated by varying the apparent degree of attitude similarity between Ss and the model. The dependent measures of aggression were the intensity and duration of electric shocks ostensibly delivered to an anger instigator by Ss. Results indicate that relative to a no model control condition, both aggressive and nonaggressive models were effective in influencing the level of aggression shown by Ss. Attraction toward the model interacted with model's level of aggression and trials in influencing shock duration. Only Ss exposed to an aggressive model toward whom they reported a low level of attraction showed a significant increase in the duration of shocks they administered to the anger instigator over trials. Shock intensity and duration were found to be positively related only under conditions of high attraction toward the model.(28 ref.)(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)
