Direction of arrival (DoA) estimation using a meta-surface (MS) reflector with an optimized arrangement of MS elements is proposed and its performance is theoretically proved. The system is capable of estimating DoA by a single receiving antenna which is a half-wavelength dipole antenna. By optimizing the arrangement of MS elements, the estimation accuracy of DoA is improved compared to a non-optimized MS reflector antenna. In addition, the system has almost the same estimation accuracy as the DoA estimation system using a 3-element linear array antenna.
