Lenses of unmedicated young human subjects have been photographed with different amounts of controlled accommodation. The changes in the cortical and central (nuclear) zones have been studied by microdensitometry of the phototransparencies. The nuclear zones showed remarkably greater change in thickness than the cortical zones. Certain remarks on the possible physical characteristics of the nucleus and the cortex have been made. A number of known facts about changes during accommodation have been reassessed because of our present findings.
