Sea urchin spermatozoa were fractionated into heads, midpieces and tails as completely as possible, and the contents of heavy metals, iron, zinc and copper, in these parts were determined both by spectrophotometry and by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The concentration of iron was the highest in the mid-piece fraction, while zinc was concentrated in the tails as well as in the midpieces. Copper was found only in the midpiece fraction. Microtubules isolated from the tails also contained considerable amounts of iron and zinc.
