Recently, Victor Serebrov and Anna Marie Pyle used a novel approach to study how the hepatitis C NS3 helicase makes its way through double-stranded RNA. 1 Surprisingly, the protein was found to have large unwinding translocation steps of equal size, which move in a discontinuous fashion. These characteristics suggest that nucleic acid motors can function in a manner analogous to kinesin and myosin.
