A method is given for the estimation, on the basis of phenotype at several loci, of the probability that the degree of relationship ( kappa ) between 2 individuals is equal to that obtaining in a standard genealogical relationship, e.g. parent-offspring. The method can be extended for application to joint relationships between >2 individuals.
