Many signaling pathways have been implicated in the development and progression of cardiac hypertrophy to heart failure (HF) and arrhythmias. These include multiple GPCRs (G-protein–coupled receptors; eg, angiotensin II), kinases (PKA, PKC, CaMKII [Ca-calmodulin–dependent protein kinase]), phosphatases (eg, CaN [calcineurin]), and transcriptional modifiers (eg, NFATs, HDACs [histone deacetylases], MEF2, and GATA4) that drive structural remodeling and altered excitation-contraction coupling signaling to result in altered contraction/relaxation and electrophysiology.
