ConclusionPeroxynitrous acid and chlorine peroxynitrite appear to be relatively unimportant byproduct channels for reactions 1 and 2 and, therefore, are not likely to be significant in stratospheric chemistry. No compelling evidence (theoretical or experimental) exists supporting the existence of any chlorine nitrate isomer, although the theoretical results of this work suggest peroxynitrous acid may exist in the gas phase as a minor byproduct of reaction 1. Experimental verification awaits, hopefully aided by the theoretical infrared spectrum presented herein.
