It has been demonstrated morphologically1, 2, 4, 5, 12 as well as electrophysiologically3, 7, 10, 1~ that the anterior and posterior parts of the nucleus interpositus of the cerebellum send their axons contralaterally to the magnocellular part of the red nucleus. The precise mode of termination of the interposito-rubral fibers, however, has not been studied with the electron microscope, although electrophysiological data have been put forward suggesting an axosomatic nature of the terminals of these fibers 0. The aim of the present study was to determine the sites of termination of the interposito-rubral fibers at the neurons of the magnocellular part of the red nucleus. In view of the data showing that no fibers from either nucleus medialis or nucleus lateralis terminate in the magnocellular red nucleus 2, a single lesion was aimed either at the nucleus interpositus or at the superior cerebellar peduncle. In 5 adult cats and one rabbit electrolytic lesions were produced stereotaxically through a stainless steel needle of 0.5 mm diameter, insulated except for the tip, by passing an anodal current of 2-3 mA for 15-30 sec; the tongue was connected to the cathode. In 3 other rabbits
