2例多次输血的地中海贫血患者接受了来自无症状献血者的含有布鲁氏菌凝集素的血液，并被诊断为布鲁氏菌病。1例患者发病时表现为传染性单核细胞增多症。两例均行脾切除术，病程无生命危险。感染复发的趋势和持续的高布鲁氏菌凝集素滴度被注意到。
Brucellosis was diagnosed in 2 polytransfused, thalassemic patients who received blood containing Brucella agglutinins from an asymptomatic donor. In 1 patient the onset of the disease simulated infectious mononucleosis. Although both cases were splenectomized, the course of illness was not life threatening. A tendency for recurrence of the infection and persistence of high Brucella agglutinin titers were noted.
