Binary iron oxide molecules F and G are generated, together with CO and CO 2 , by prolonged UV photolysis (λ=ca. 312 nm) of Fe(CO) 5 molecules isolated in O 2 -doped argon matrices at ca. 20 K. The identity and likely structure of each of the oxides have been established by analyzing the number, energies, and relative intensitia of the IR absorptions displayed by the 18 O-enriched molecule in the region 800-1000 cm -1
