SUMMARY A flight investigation was conducted to study the handling qualities of a rudimentary hingeless rotor helicopter. The results indicate that the control characteristics were generally good with positive and precise pitch control. The roll control response w a s generally good but pilots objected to a pitch-due- to- roll angular-velocity coupling. The coupling was shown to be predictable and methods a r e available to minimize the coupling. The hingeless rotor helicopter was found to have positive maneuver stability and good damping of moderate gust disturbances up to the maximum speed obtainable.
