As President Obama highlighted in his 2015 State of the Union message, building a highly capable cybersecurity workforce remains a top national priority [6]. Yet despite significant efforts to increase the size and quality of the workforce, a recent survey of IT managers revealed that 86% of them still believe that the US faces a shortage in skilled cybersecurity professionals [4]. In part one of this special section on cybersecurity education, the articles highlighted curricular innovations designed to increase the impact of cybersecurity educational practice by managing the tension between breadth and depth [2]. Part two of this special section continues the discussion and presents four contributions—two articles that underscore the importance of a holistic approach to developing the cybersecurity workforce and two articles that highlight projects designed to broaden the impact of curricular innovations. Taken together, the contributions in this two-part series provide practical insights on how to achieve both breadth and depth in cybersecurity education.
