1. INTRODUCTION The two principal commercial polyamides are poly(hexamethylene adipamide) (nylon 66) and polycaprolactam (nylon 6). They are produced by direct amidation of a diacid with a diamine and ring-opening polymerization of ɛ-caprolactam, respectively.
