On the basis of Makishima and Mackenzie's theory on the calculation of elastic moduli for different oxide glasses, we have introduced some modifications in the expression of the packing factor. The model has been extended to oxynitride glasses. A thermodynamic factor, which results from the substitution of oxygen by nitrogen within the vitreous network, has been introduced. The result is that calculated values are in good agreement with experimental values.
