Clinical Analysis of Intracranial Arachnoid Cysts Treatment

Objective To explore the clinical features and treatment of the intracranial arachnoid cyst (IAC). Methods Of 53 patients with the IAC, 47 patients underwent surgery, including total resection of the cysts walls and local opening of subarachnoid cavity and relative cistern, resection of the partial cysts, cyst-peritoneal shunt and cyst-cisterneal shunt, and 6 who did not undergo surgery were followed up to be observed. Result A majority of the patients achieved good curative effect. The seizure was controlled after the surgery in 14 of 16 patients with epilepsy. Conclusion IAC with clinical symptoms should be treated by surgery. The resection of cysts and local opening of subarachnoid cavity and relative cistern is the first choice of operation of treating IAC.
