The Namurian rocks are well outcropped in Ningxia, North China. Apart from plenty of fossil insects, other invertebrates and fossil plants, a new fossil fish group was recently excavated for the first time in Zhongwei County, southern Ningxia. The fish fauna includes palaeoniscoid fish individuals, scales and some chondrichthyan Listracanthus-like dermal denticles. The ecology analysis shows that the fishes were buried in nearshore sea, but might have been transported from a different area. Stratigraphically, the name Tupo Fm. is recommended as the lithological unit for the whole rocks formerly recognized as the Namurian deposits in Ningxia, though the uppermost part of this unit might have been younger than the Namurian.
