One hundred white females were approached in supermarkets by either a black or whiteEand asked for 10 cents to help purchase a food item. The food had been previously judged to be either a high need (milk) or a low need (frozen cookie dough) item. Significant effects were associated with need but not with race. The implications of the results for attitude-behavior discrepancy and contexts under which discrimination will take place are discussed.
