T his research note updates and revises the numbers, percentage distributions, rates and ratios of U. S. abortion patients, according to age and race.1 New data for 1988 are presented, and the statistics for 1987 have been recalculated to correct an anomaly in the 1987 data that occurred when one large state overstated the proportion of abortions that occurred among women under age 18. Data for 1980 and 1986 are shown to illustrate recent trends.
