The desire to commemorate significant events and the idea of pictorial depiction of a story existed by the end of the prehistoric period, but the major lines of development of the arts evolved with other considerations in mind.The situation is similar to that of early Egypt, but the forms in which the artistic ideas of the two lands were expressed are very different.
