Laboratory bioassays indicate that both cis and trans 4-methylcyclohexanol are active as A. triseriatus oviposition attractants. Electrophysiological experiments demonstrate that p-cresol is perceived by short, blunt A2 sensilla, while 4-methylcyclohexanol is perceived by short, pointed A2 sensilla. Each compound elicits responses from similar sensilla of A. aegypti and Culex tarsalis. Similar experiments suggest that p-cresol is detected by both types of sensilla on Anopheles stephensi.
