Macroscopically, the parotid gland contained a circumscribed but unencapsulated, grey/white to tan mass 20 x 16 x 10 mm. Microscopically, the tumour margins were partly circumscribed with scattered infiltrative foci, extending into the adjacent parotid gland. No true capsule was present. The growth patterns included solid nests, tubular/ductal areas, micropapillary foci and a cribriform or pseudo-adenoid cystic area (Figure 1). The stroma was focally hyalinized and somewhat fibrous in other areas. There was no tumour necrosis or perineural infiltration and no associated pleomorphic adenoma. The cells were relatively uniform with scant to moderate amounts of cytoplasm, round to oval nuclei with a fine chromatin pattern and small nucleoli. Mitotic figures were scant.
