The crystallizationof complexes (Me4N) 2 [Zn4 (SPh) 8X2](X= Cl, Br),(Me4N) 2 [Zn4 (SPh) 9Cl], and (Me4N) 2 [Zn4 (SPh) 10] from alcohol-acetonesolutions containing solvated zinc (II), benzenethiolate, and halide ionsis described and interpreted in terms of equilibriainvolving these and other species. The adamantane cage structure of [(/¿-SPh) 6 (ZnSPh) 4] 1 2~ occurs also in [(g-SPh) 6 (ZnSPh) 2 (ZnX) 2] 2 45"(X= Cl, Br (isostructural)) with two terminal halide ligands. No evidence for halide substitution of more than two terminal positions has been obtained. Slight distortions of the adamantane cage, principally in the positions of the bridgingsulfur atoms, are associated with differentiated phenyl ring orientations, not the chloride substitution which has no detectable influence on the geometry of the cage. Mean distances are Zn-S (Cl) tórminai= 2.257±0.007 and Zn-Sbridging= 2.358±0.005 A. Crystal data: a= 12.377 (2) A, b= 16.592 (3) k, c= 16.967 (3) A, a= 76.68 (1), ß= 69.92 (l) 6, y= 72.57 (1), PI, Z= 2, 4138 observedreflections, R= 0.052.
