We demonstrate a nonpolarimetric technique for the coherent detection of a continuous wave (CW) electromagnetic (EM) radiation using electrooptic (EO) detection. A dual-frequency optical source is used for both the generation and detection of the CW radiation. The detection process is based on an optical homodyning of the probe beam and sideband generated in the EO crystal by the EM field to be detected. The operation is analyzed theoretically and confirmed experimentally in the microwave region. (C) 2012 The Japan Society of Applied Physics
