Wolf domestication is a hotly contested topic, and in many ways, it is a puzzling field to follow. There is debate about the location, timing, and process. One theory is that wolves became attracted to food scraps around human camps approximately 15,000 years ago. Over time, a few wolves lost their fear of humans and became tame. Under this “garbagedump” model, the scavenger wolves self-domesticated, and humans had little to do with it. Raymond Pierotti and Brandy R.
