Fiber composites can be basically described as reinforcing fibers embedded in a rigid polymer matrix. Moreover, the matrix system can be selected from different polymer systems classified into thermoset, thermoplastic, and elastomer. The quality of the fiber‐reinforced polymer (FRP) composite product is directly influenced by the manufacturing process. Integration of sensors in fiber‐reinforced composites can rely on a large variety of techniques that are naturally influenced by the composite manufacturing process itself. The integration of fiber optical sensors in FRP must seem an almost natural approach, since sensor and reinforcement share the same geometry. In general, sensors in composites can be used for different purposes of monitoring and controlling the manufacturing of a material or structure and for monitoring its service life. Pressure sensors are used to measure the pressure in vacuum‐assisted resin infusion (VARI) composite manufacturing.
