Lay SummaryWe report an association between balsalazide exposure during the development of fertilizing sperm and birth defects in offspring. Exposed offspring were approximately 8 times more likely to have a birth defect. There were no pre-existing reasons to suspect such a relationship, which should be confirmed in other data.
