The first ever National Falls Awareness Day takes place next month, on July 19. Organised by Help the Aged, the day is dedicated to promoting falls prevention among older people and will be marked by events across the country. The RCN is supporting the event and cartoonist Kipper Williams has provided drawings to illustrate it. Falls are the most common cause of accidental death or serious injury among older people, affecting about a third of all people over 65 and costing the NHS more than £980 million each year for treatment of fractures alone.
