Three female patients are described with matting of scalp hair due to cetrimide shampoo. In each case the process was irreversible and the affected hair had to be cut off. Evidence is presented to suggest that viscous fluid ‘welding’ may be important in the pathogenesis of this condition as well as felting and electrical forces.
