Presents the case of a 39-yr-old male who experienced acute dysphoria, agitated confusion, and suicidal ideation following iv administration of amphotericin B for disseminated histoplasmosis. It is hypothesized that patients who experience cognitive and/or affective brain syndromes may have a greater than usual concentration of the drug in the brain or possess greater sensitivity of brain cells to the drug. It may possibly interfere with neurotransmitter actions, producing an impaired mental state.
