Developments in the past decade have highlighted the complexity of signal transduction pathways activated by PAF receptor (PAF-R) (Shukla, 1992; Shimizuet al.,1992). Molecular details and identities of individual components involved in these signalling steps have yet to be resolved. In a broader perspective, PAF receptor activates two major pathways (a) mediated via phospholipases (of types C, D, and A2) and (b) protein kinases (i.e., PKC, tyrosine kinase, MAP kinase). Further, Ca2+mobilization (intracellular release, influx) also play important roles (James-Krackeet al.,1994). How these multiple pathways lead to expression of genes induced by PAF is the topic of this article.
