This paper discussed the effect of swimming exercise on biomechanical characteristics of femur and vertebral of rats.36 SD rats were randomly divided into control group (n=18) and experimental group (n=18) with 30 min swimming per day,and total 6 weeks. The fresh bones of femur and vertebrae were taken as specimens to produce test sample.Three-point bending and compression test were used to test the samples on the computerized multifunction test machine for the biomechanical parameters and standard statistical test. The result showed that the biomechanical characteristics of femur took place different changes, the elastic model, the maximal load, the yield stress and strain had not remarkably change (P0.05),but maximal stress, maximal strain and energy decreased significantly (P0.05).Vertebral compressive test showed that the maximal load, yield stress, maximal stress, yield strain and amount of bone mineral parameter increased significantly (P0.05) except for the energy (P0.05).It suggested that biomechanical characteristics of vertebrae could benefit from swimming exercise and vertebrae took place the adaptation change.According to relevant research at home and abroad, swimming exercise was one of good exercise methods to prevent the pain of low back and osteoporosis. It was worth us to make further clinical study.
