DISCUSSIONHydatidiform mole occurs in 1 in every 1000 to 1500 pregnancies in the United States, although the incidence is almost 10 times higher in Asia and LatinA girl (aged 15 years, 7 months) had a 2-week history of moderate vaginal bleeding, intermittent crampy lower abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, and a 1-week history of fatigue, heat intolerance, hot flashes, and palpitations. She had no missed or scanty periods, breast tenderness, galactorrhea, anxiety, or increased frequency of bowel movements. Her school performance had deteriorated and her mother noted moodiness and increased irritability. She attained menarche at 12 years of age, and her cycles were always regular. She reported one unprotected sexual encounter 3 months earlier. Her medical history and family history were otherwise unremarkable.
